The Opportunity 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Support Officer to join our Varsity Lakes team! 

As a Payroll Support Officer, you’ll play a key role in processing wages for over 10,000 team members across more than 400 sites nationally, on a weekly basis. Reporting directly to the Payroll Team Leader, you'll become an integral part of a fast-paced, high-performing environment.

You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of payroll functions, giving you the depth and breadth to build a strong foundation for your future career in payroll or HR operations.

We have two fixed-term positions available until 30 October 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Processing the weekly payroll for full time, part time and casual staff
  • Manage payroll-related queries and issues i.e., fresh service ticketing system
  • Processing of new staff, staff status changes and terminations
  • Checking and maintaining employee payroll data.
  • Manage Award Rate and Annual Pay Increases for Centre based staff.
  • Manage Annual Trainee Increment Increases.
  • Ensure confidentiality of employment records as per the Australian Privacy Principles.
  • Efficient and accurate high-volume transactional processing including but not limited to commencement of new employees, terminations, leave, allowance, and deductions.
  • Build and maintain internal and external relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Liase with Human Resources regarding on boarding, terminations, remuneration packages, conditions of employment and other industrial relation matters.
  • Opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in payroll information data manipulation and loads, data integrations and data workflows.

About You 

  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar payroll role.
  • Intermediate-Advanced Microsoft Excel experience.
  • Previous systems experience with Preceda preferable but not necessary.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Previous experience working in a large and fast-paced organisation with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Hold a valid working with children check or willingness to obtain upon commencement.
